Reviews of The Silent Mountain Full Movie:
The film’s story opens in 1915 with a couple in adoration: Andreas, an adolescent Tyrolean played by William Moseley (who showed up in each of the three portions of The Chronicles of Narnia), and Francesca (Eugenia Costantini from trans-Alpine TV arrangement Boris), a 17-year-old Italian young lady from the neighboring Dolomites. Anyway their blooming relationship is abruptly intruded on when Andreas is drafted up to join the armed force, after Italy proclaims war on Austria. This Alpine fringe area soon turns into the setting for catastrophe, as neighbors get to be foes, families are partitioned, and sweethearts are divided. The film’s prestigious thrown incorporates Italian star Claudia Cardinale (see the photograph, tackled the film set a week ago), Corrado Invernizzi (the specialist in Vincere by Marco Bellocchio), and also Austrian performers Fritz Karl and Emily Cox.
A tale around one of the less essential cutting edges of World War 1, the one in the Dolomites in the middle of Austria and Italy – one of the crazier front lines in mankind’s history, professedly more men passed on there by characteristic reasons (climate, rockfall, torrential slides …) than by adversary hands. Large portions of the trenches, military streets and fortresses are still there – landmarks to the craziness of war, as this generation tries to be.
In case you’re shooting a war motion picture, there’s no lack of samples. The best examination here, I think, would be “Das Boot” – a gathering of men, none of them truly intrigued by governmental issues, the vast majority of them essentially drafted – battling against a for the most part unseen adversary and the strengths of nature and advanced fighting. While “The Silent Mountain” figures out how to stand its ground, it loses each and every point to “Das Boot”. As opposed to concentrating on the young people (William Moseley’s execution leaves nothing to be wanted, most different on-screen characters make a fine showing, as well), the author chose to incorporate some family show (pleasant cameo by Claudia Cardinale) including a sad affection story, and a subplot with a reprobate down in the valley and an over-the-top Italian leader – not seriously composed, yet those occupy a whole lot from the principle subject, and take away some effect.
Separated from those script issues, everything lives up to expectations, and the generation qualities are OK regardless of a few genuine issues the group ran into due to the brutal outside conditions – a few parts were hit by lightning, and their primary front line set was washed away in an avalanche before they could utilize it. Accordingly, there’s less combat zone scenes than arranged, yet those that stay still give a decent impression.
Not the best war film, yet a long way from an awful one.
